IIDA AND ALA ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF THE LIBRARY INTERIORS
COMPETITION
IIDA and the American Library Association (ALA) are pleased to announce the winners of the second Library Interior
Design Competition. The biennial awards honor excellence in library Interior Design, incorporating aesthetics, design
creativity, function and satisfaction of the client's objectives. Nine winners and two honorable mentions were selected
from projects submitted from throughout North America.
The distinguished panel of judges for the competition included: Joseph Rondinelli, Associate IIDA, Senior
Associate, Shepley Bulfinch, Boston; Steven McCollom, IIDA, AIA, Associate Partner, Gary Lee Partners,
San Francisco; Drew Harrington, Director of Library Services, University of Portland; and Kathryn Page,
Principal, Page and Moris, San Francisco. Jennifer Busch, Editorial Director of Contract magazine, served
as facilitator for the judging, which took place in April.

IIDA AND TANDUS PARTNER TO CREATE INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
FOR GOVERNMENT DESIGNERS
IIDA, along with its Government Forum, and floorcovering manufacturer Tandus announce a collaboration
to produce a comprehensive series of events for government designers in 2008. Members of IIDA's
Government Forum commit to enhancing the quality of Interior Design in public and government facilities
at the federal, state, city and local levels through professional advocacy, member services and member
interaction. This collaboration with Tandus is a step toward the association's commitment to offering programs
directly relevant to this growing sector of the profession.
Programs are currently being planned for June 11, as part of NeoCon World's Trade Fair in Chicago,
and for Oct. 29, as part of NeoCon East in Baltimore. The June 11 program, titled "United by Design," will
be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westin North Michigan Avenue in Chicago and will feature a keynote
address by world-renowned industrial designer Yves Béhar. The Oct. 29 program will be held from 10 a.m.
until noon at the Baltimore Convention Center. In addition to the Baltimore Government Forum educational
session, IIDA will unveil the winners of its inaugural Excellence in Government Design Awards in a presentation
on the show floor later that day.

2008 WINNING DESIGN PROJECTS AND FIRMS TO BE RECOGNIZED
AT COOL, IIDA'S NEOCON GALA
IIDA is pleased to announce the winners of its prestigious 2008 interior design competitions, the 35th Annual Interior
Design Competition and the 16th Annual Will Ching Design Competition. Truly international in scope, this year's slate of
winners demonstrates that great design is a universal goal.
The five winners in the 35th Annual Interior Design Competition were chosen from more than 300 projects submitted
in the following practice areas: Commercial, Education/Institutional, Government, Healthcare, Hospitality, Residential and
Retail. (Awards may not be given every year.)

In addition, The Landmark, a supermarket and food court in the Landmark Department Store in Manila,
Philippines, designed by Hugh A. Boyd Architects of Montclair, N.J., was chosen as the winner of the
16th Annual Will Ching Design Competition, which honors outstanding commercial design by firms of five or
fewer individuals.
"These winners exemplify the best in design today," says Brian Thornton, IIDA, AIA, IIDA's Vice President
of Communications and Director of Design for MGM Mirage Design Group, Las Vegas. "Our global community
of design is clearly thriving in all practice areas. We are particularly pleased to have over 300 entries
from multiple continents this year."
Judges for the distinguished competition included Peter Conant, IIDA, AIA, LEED AP, Principal/Design
Principal, Conant Architects; Bill Grant, President and Creative Director, Grant Design Collaborative;
Mark Harbick, IIDA, AIA, Design Principal and Vice President, Huntsman Architectural Group; and Elva
Rubio, Executive Vice President and Creative Director, Bruce Mau Design. The judging took place March 1
in Chicago.
Winning projects will be featured in the NeoCon issue of Interior Design magazine, publishing partner for the
competitions. The judges' selection for Best of Competition will be officially revealed and all winners will be celebrated
at COOL, IIDA's NeoCon Gala, held June 8 in the Grand Ballroom at the Westin Chicago River North.
